Sports Writing Success Stories
Green, Ohio, resident Jeff Brewer knows sports.
Twenty-plus years as a college sports information director and sports media consultant, as many combined years officiating soccer and high school basketball and 20 awards for excellence in writing and publications easily attest to Jeff's knowledge of — and passion for — sports writing.
All of that sports media expertise and interest eventually led Jeff to one conclusion:
There are a lot of people who love high school sports, and there are a lot of great, untold high school sports stories, but there was no good way to get those stories to the people who wanted to read them.
No way, that is, until Jeff teamed with Akron-area journalists and website programming experts for the August 2009 launch of SportsInk.com, Sports Reporting Technologies' pilot website for its SportSiteWare™ CMS.
The website covers 15 varsity-level high school sports at 46 high schools in Summit, Medina and Portage counties in Ohio. In addition to game schedules and results, the site provides news story coverage of games seven days a week, audio interviews with coaches and athletes and video highlights of games.
The response from high school sports enthusiasts and professionals was immediate and positive:
"This is a much needed site for information! I am amazed at how many people are going to your site. I receive comments from people I don't know telling me that they have seen my team and me on the website." --Audley McGill, head coach, Firestone High School (Akron, Ohio) Girls Basketball
"I just started my business about a year ago and felt this website reached the market I'm trying to reach. I love the site; it's easy to use and provides a lot of detail."
--Bill Zufall, Zufall Insurance
The real proof of SportsInk.com's success is its own "tale of the tape" -- more than 130,000 visitors and nearly 600,000 page views in its first year of operation.
"We knew there was a need for this sort of coverage, but the response -- from coaches, players, advertisers and the general public -- has simply been overwhelming," Jeff said. "We've definitely hit on something that with SportSiteWare can be duplicated throughout the country."
